Sixty-three percent of park rangers in Asia report having experienced life-threatening situations on the job. In Southeast Asia in particular, rangers’ work on the front lines to prevent wildlife poaching frequently involves armed conflict with members of organized criminal groups. Often lacking the proper equipment and living on very little income, many rangers say their love for wildlife is what keeps them doing this difficult and risky work.
